Ratko Petrić
Zadar, 12 May 1941 – Zagreb, 12 October 2010
The academic sculptor Ratko Petrić graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1966 under professor Vanja Radauš and was an associate of Radauš's Master's Workshop from 1966 to 1969. He is the co-founder of the visual arts group Biafra. From 1998, Petrić was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. He created sculptures with social and protest notes, as well as work cycles that were ironic commentaries on societal flaws and trends. The anti-beauty, unconventional expression and shock effect of his works create an expressionist atmosphere, with the artist at times using non-standard sculpturing materials, such as: skin, paper, fur, meat and other finished objects. Author of several public sculptures, mostly in Zadar and Zagreb.
