Marko Zeman
Zagreb, 1975
After finishing high school, Marko Zeman studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in the class of Zlatko Keser, and graduated under the mentorship of Zoltan Novak in 2010. He exhibited at numerous group and individual exhibitions. He is an artistic associate at the painting department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. He is a member of HDLU and the Croatian Association of Independent Artists.
He has a practice of parallel exhibition of painting and drawing works. At the beginning of each new cycle, the artist simultaneously works in the medium of painting and in the medium of drawing, with the fact that the drawing always precedes the painting. His interests lie in the exploration of form and the painting process, and in creating his works he instinctively uses various materials. The highly sensitive approach and emotional stake involved in this exploration of life creates images that, on the one hand, are outwardly fragile, but loud, fierce and expressive, and on the other hand, constantly on the edge of their physical duration, with cracks and internal tectonic shifts that transmit signals and premonitions about the vulnerability of matter. He frequently depicts his immediate surroundings, his personal perception of everyday and ordinary motifs, doing so with a dose of humour.
