Zagreb, 29 November 1927 – Zagreb 2 May 2022
Croatian painter Đuro Seder graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1951 in the class of Antun Mezdjić, while he completed his specialization in painting in the class of professor Marin Tartaglia in 1953. He taught at the same academy from 1981 to 1998, and from 1983 to 1987. . holds the office of dean. In 2012, he was elected to the honorary title of professor emeritus. He was a member of the artistic group Gorgona from 1959 to 1966.
Seder's early works are influenced by Marino Tartaglia and Post-Sezanism. The period of activity in Gorgona is marked by non-figurative paintings, initially richer in color, and later monochrome, thick spreads, with rudimentary signs, on the trail of enformel. In the 1970s, he returned to color and created works free of gesture and a sensed motive. He is one of the pioneers of the new painting, whose expressiveness is emphasized by open color, pasty spread and expressive motifs. In the 1990s, he introduced biblical themes. He is also the author of church stained glass windows, and a number of works on biblical themes in Bosnian churches and monasteries.
